CHAPTER 650 An Act to amend and reenact § 22.1-277.01:2 of the Code of Virginia, relating to student searches. [H 1489] Approved March 28, 1999

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 22.1-277.01:2 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 22.1-277.01:2. Guidelines for student searches.

The Board of Education shall develop, in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General, guidelines for school boards for the conduct of student searches, including random locker searches and strip searches, consistent with relevant state and federal laws and constitutional principles.

2. That the Board of Education shall report on the implementation of § 22.1-277.01:2 to the General Assembly by December 1, 1999. The report shall be submitted as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents.
