1999 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 6 of Chapter 206 of the Acts of Assembly of 1934 is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 6. The officers of the said town, in addition to the mayor and councilmen,
shall be a treasurer, a clerk, and a sergeant, who shall be electors of the
town;. The treasurer, clerk and sergeant may reside within or outside the town
boundaries. The council may by ordinance provide for such other officers,
agents, and employees as it may deem appropriate, prescribe their duties and fix
their compensation. The treasurer, clerk, and sergeant shall be elected by the
council for a term of two years coincident with that of the council. The office
of treasurer and clerk may be filled by the same person, who may by a vote of
two-thirds of all the members of the council, be a member of the council.
