JOINT CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT

We, the conferees, appointed by the respective bodies to consider and report upon the disagreeing vote on House Bill No. 2209, report as follows:

A. We recommend that the Senate Amendments be rejected.

B. We recommend that the engrossed bill be amended as follows to resolve the matters under disagreement.

Insert

The Virginia Department of Transportation shall monitor the operation of vehicles under this subsection and the effects of such operation on the condition of the affected highways and report to the Governor and the 2001 Regular Session of the General Assembly its findings and recommendations as to whether the provisions of this subsection should be allowed to expire on July 1, 2001, or continued, either in its present or some modified form, for some specific or indefinite period. During such monitoring, should the Virginia Department of Transportation determine that the additional weight limits authorized by this subsection are negatively impacting the condition of such highways, the Department is authorized to prohibit the additional weight limits authorized by this subsection.
