SUMMARY:

Smart growth area initiatives. Directs the Commission on the Future of the Environment to study smart growth area initiatives. "Smart growth areas" are existing communities and other locally designated areas identified to receive state infrastructure development expenditures. By directing state expenditures to these areas, the state may reduce suburban sprawl, develop roads and other infrastructure at lower cost, and revitalize older communities.
