SUMMARY:

Study; Commission on the Condition and Future of Virginia's Cities. Establishes the Commission on the Condition and Future of Virginia's Cities. The resolution notes the decline in the quality of life in cities as evidenced by rising poverty and its attendant problems, increased costs of health and human services, public education, declining population, deteriorating infrastructures, fiscal exigency, and other indicators of urban decline. Virginia's cities must address these problems while providing vital public services with limited resources. The Commission is requested to conduct a comprehensive examination of the condition and needs of Virginia's cities, and develop and recommend appropriate and feasible alternatives to ameliorate the problems to ensure the future of the Commonwealth.
