SUMMARY:
Emergency Medical Services. Establishes a joint subcommittee to study the emergency medical services (EMS) system in the Commonwealth. The joint subcommittee is requested to, among other things, (i) examine the governing structure of the EMS system with the view toward determining the basis for and resolving the growing friction between the local emergency medical services offices, the volunteer system, and the State Emergency Medical Services Office; (ii) identify the continuing issues and problems concerning the education and training of emergency medical services personnel; (iii) identify the issues surrounding the controversy pertaining to paid and volunteer emergency medical service personnel; (iv) examine issues related to private ambulance services; (v) determine the adequacy of emergency medical services throughout the Commonwealth, including the status and needs of the State MEDIVAC System; and (vi) consider such related issues as the joint subcommittee may deem necessary to ensure the viability of the statewide EMS system.
