1998 SESSION
WHEREAS, Stanley W. Coolbaugh, a resident of Manassas and a life member of the Francis Cannon Post 7589, Veteran of Foreign Wars, will celebrate his 100th birthday on August 11, 1998; and
WHEREAS, born in Noxen, Pennsylvania, Stanley Coolbaugh entered the United States Army in March of 1918 and went overseas with the 71st Artillery Regiment, Coast Artillery Corps, which was organized in May of 1918; and
WHEREAS, because of the high quality of the men of the 71st Artillery Regiment, it was ready for action by July, when it was sent to LeHavre, France, arriving just before the Armistice ending World War I; and
WHEREAS, after the war, First Class Gunner Stanley Coolbaugh served a tour of duty in the Army Headquarters Command, where he was part of the Presidential Honor Guard under President Calvin Coolidge; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, Stanley Coolbaugh was presented a medal by President Clinton in honor of the 75th anniversary of World War I; and
WHEREAS, Stanley Coolbaugh is a veteran of the "War to End All Wars" and a witness to the entire turbulent history of the 20th century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Stanley W. Coolbaugh on his meritorious service in the United States Army during World War I; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stanley W. Coolbaugh as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
