1998 SESSION
WHEREAS, George W. Brown, professor and chairman of the biology department at Norfolk State University, was recently elected a trustee of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the largest nonprofit organization working to save the Bay, uses a three-pronged approach to its mission: environmental education, environmental defense, and land conservation; and
WHEREAS, a University of Wisconsin Ph.D. in bacteriology, Dr. George Brown brings to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation a wealth of experience, in academia and in industry, that should prove invaluable to the organization; and
WHEREAS, Dr. George Brown has long been interested in environmental matters, from his days as a staff researcher at Proctor and Gamble, working on biodegradable detergents, to his membership in the Elizabeth River Project, of which he is a charter member; and
WHEREAS, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, along with other groups committed to saving the Bay, faces severe challenges in the years ahead, and having Dr. George Brown in a position of leadership immeasurably strengthens the Foundation's ability to meet those challenges; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Dr. George W. Brown on his appointment as a trustee of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. George W. Brown as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his efforts on behalf of the Commonwealth's natural resources.
