SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 260
Commending the Magna Vista High School boys' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the boys' basketball team from Magna Vista High School, in Henry County, won the 1998 Virginia High School League Group AA state basketball championship; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors from Magna Vista faced the daunting challenge of defeating the Minutemen from Liberty High School, who were two-time defending state champions and had not lost to a Group AA team in three years, or a total of 82 games; and

WHEREAS, the Magna Vista Warriors were unfazed by the reputation of their opponents, relying on a tough defense and the clutch scoring of star forward Harvey Millner to prevail in the title game 73-67; and

WHEREAS, the Magna Vista Warriors, who also won a state championship in 1989, the school's first year of existence, now have an undefeated string of six consecutive state tournament games; and

WHEREAS, the exciting victory by the Warriors of Magna Vista was the culmination of a season of hard work and team play that ended with an excellent record of 22-5; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors' championship was the result of the talent and spirit of the players, the inspired leadership of the coaching staff, and the unwavering support of the students and faculty of Magna Vista High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the boys' basketball team from Magna Vista High School on its triumphant 1997-98 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Kevin Johnson in honor of the championship performance of the Magna Vista High School Warriors basketball team.
