Commending Marguarite Dowling.

WHEREAS, a decade ago, Marguarite Dowling of Norfolk created Buzy Kidz, and organization to assist Norfolk's young people obtain summer jobs; and

WHEREAS, after 10 years, this innovative program has helped over 100 youngsters, aged 10 to 22, to find work, stay out of trouble, and earn money for school supplies, clothes, tutors, and school trips; and

WHEREAS, the Buzy Kidz participants earn money working as baby-sitters, house and car cleaners, and tutors; and

WHEREAS, Buzy Kidz members also operate tables at two of Norfolk's flea markets, selling donated items to earn money; and

WHEREAS, the Buzy Kidz program, run on a volunteer basis by Marguarite Dowling, has helped the young people in the program to help themselves, has taught them responsibility, and has helped them to stay in school and, in some cases, advance to college; and

WHEREAS, Marguarite Dowling's excellent idea, her unflagging energy, and her commitment to the young people of her community has kept the Buzy Kidz program going for 10 years, with substantial and long-term benefits to the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Marguarite Dowling for her dedication to the growth and welfare of the youth of her community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marguarite Dowling as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her most worthy efforts.
