985814657WHEREAS, Ruth Barham Kee, a widely respected educator in the Chesapeake Public Schools for 30 years, died on March 4, 1997; and
WHEREAS, a native of Newsoms, Ruth Kee was educated in the Southampton County Public Schools and earned her undergraduate degree from Norfolk State University and her master's degree from Old Dominion University; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Kee served the Chesapeake Public Schools for 30 years, first as a teacher at Norfolk Highlands Primary School, then as assistant principal at Portlock Primary School; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Kee returned to Norfolk Highlands Primary School as principal in 1987 and continued to serve in that role until her death; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Kee was an active member of the Chesapeake Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Reading Council of Chesapeake; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Kee was also a life member of the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers; and
WHEREAS, a woman devoted to the education of the young people of Chesapeake, Ruth Kee leaves a lasting legacy of service to the thousands of schoolchildren whose lives she touched and improved; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the passing of an exceptionally talented and dedicated educator, Ruth Barham Kee; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ruth Barham Kee as an expression of the abiding respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
