WHEREAS, Felipe Q. Cabacoy, a native of the Philippines, has been a resident of Norfolk since 1981; and

WHEREAS, a sergeant in the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, Felipe Cabacoy, who holds a degree in political science, works to educate the Hampton Roads Filipino community about the American political process; and

WHEREAS, Felipe Cabacoy volunteers his time as chairman of the Filipino American Community Action Group and as director of the Coalition of Filipino American Voters of Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, the goals of both groups are to educate Filipinos about the differences between the political systems in the Philippines and the United States and to encourage Filipino political activity; and

WHEREAS, Felipe Cabacoy's personal goal is to "motivate everybody in the Filipino community to take an active role in the political process"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Felipe Q. Cabacoy on his meritorious efforts to encourage the political involvement of the Filipino community of Norfolk; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Felipe Q. Cabacoy as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his dedication to Norfolk's Filipino community.
