SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 143 Offered January 26, 1998 Commending the Strasburg High School wrestling team. ----------

WHEREAS, the Strasburg High School wrestling team, under Head Coach Ricky Bowley, captured the 1997 Virginia High School League Group A state wrestling championship; and

WHEREAS, after completing the dual meet season with a record of 16-7, the Rams from Strasburg High School won the district championship and placed second in the region to qualify for the state championships; and

WHEREAS, the Strasburg Rams then wrestled with great skill and intensity to bring the Group A state title home to Shenandoah County; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Strasburg High School wrestling team are Shane Cogswell, Chad Lamma, Sammy Wolford, Eric Tewalt, Travis Bowers, Marlon Anderson, Derrick Pittington, Nick Neff, Paul Hines, Shawn Pittington, Scott Bowers, Zack Plauger, Eric Layman, and D. J. Hockman; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Ricky Bowley is no stranger to state wrestling championships, having won two individual titles himself while wrestling for Strasburg High School in the mid-1980s; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Strasburg High School, Coach Bowley earned his college degree from James Madison University before returning to his alma mater and guiding the Rams to a state wrestling championship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate the Strasburg High School Rams on their 1997 state wrestling championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Ricky Bowley in honor of the exceptional performance of the wrestling team from Strasburg High School.
