Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 14.1-70.1 as follows:

§ 14.1-70.1. Salaries and expense allowances for additional courtroom security officers.

If the circuit court judge of any city or county requires a sheriff to employ a greater number of full-time deputy sheriffs as courtroom security officers than is fixed by the Compensation Board, the Commonwealth shall pay a portion of the salaries for such additional courtroom security officers. The portion of the salaries of such additional courtroom security officers to be paid by the Commonwealth shall be determined by the Compensation Board based on standards established by the circuit court judges of the Commonwealth.
