HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 407
Commending the National Order of Women Legislators.

WHEREAS, the National Order of Women Legislators, the first and only organization for present and former women legislators, was founded in 1938; and

WHEREAS, an individual membership organization, the National Order of Women Legislators has provided support for women legislators in all 50 states; and

WHEREAS, founded only 18 years after the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, the National Order of Women Legislators embodies the progress that women have made in government, industry, and the professions since winning the right to vote in 1920; and

WHEREAS, the National Order of Women Legislators provides the legislative leadership for the board of directors of its allied organization, the National Foundation for Women Legislators, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women Legislators combines the membership of the National Order of Women Legislators with honorary members of Congress and corporate and individual supporters to provide educational programs to members; and

WHEREAS, the National Foundation for Women Legislators annually sponsors conferences, leadership and international programs, and networking events for its members and the members of the National Order of Women Legislators; and

WHEREAS, as part of the 60th anniversary of the National Order of Women Legislators, the National Order and the National Foundation are urging individual states to sponsor commemorative events, including receptions, luncheons, and dinners; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the National Order of Women Legislators on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the National Order of Women Legislators as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for the organization's steadfast support of women legislators in Virginia and throughout the United States.
