Commending Frank P. Soden.

WHEREAS, for most of the latter half of the twentieth century Frank Soden has been one of the better-known personalities in Central Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Frank Soden has been the "Voice of the Richmond Braves," broadcast University of Richmond basketball and football games and University of Virginia and Virginia Tech football games, anchored numerous local sports coaches shows and hosted the "Battle of the Brains" and Henrico County's High School Academic Quiz; and

WHEREAS, Frank Soden is well known and highly regarded as a master of ceremonies, host, and featured speaker, appearing at countless events over the past 40 years; and

WHEREAS, for all of his local renown, Frank Soden has made many other contributions to the Richmond community, working quietly and diligently for a wide range of worthy causes, from the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association to the Virginia Home for Boys and Commonwealth Catholic Charities; and

WHEREAS, his selfless service on behalf of others has won Frank Soden an incredible list of awards, from a 1954 award from the Richmond Council of the Girl Scouts of America to the 1996 Sam Dibert Community Service Award from Commonwealth Catholic Charities; and

WHEREAS, Frank Soden has been recognized for his community service activities by the Governor of Virginia, the United States Navy League, the American Legion, the Virginia Capitol Area March of Dimes, the National Council of Christians and Jews, and many others; and

WHEREAS, for his professional accomplishments Frank Soden has been honored by the University of Richmond Athletic Hall of Fame, the Richmond Broadcasters Association, the International Association of Basketball Officials, and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Frank Soden has been named Sportscaster of the Year, Man of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year; the Diamond baseball stadium in Richmond has its Frank Soden Press Box; the March of Dimes gives its Frank P. Soden Humanitarian Award; and August 29, 1984, was Frank Soden Appreciation Day; and

WHEREAS, through both his well-known broadcasting career and his tireless community service activities Frank P. Soden has had a major impact on the lives and well-being of countless citizens of Richmond and Central Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Frank P. Soden for his decades of meritorious service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank P. Soden as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his lifetime of extraordinary achievement and generosity.
