HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 339
Commending Ulysses Turner.

WHEREAS, for the past decade Ulysses Turner has served the citizens of Norfolk as a member of the Norfolk School Board; and

WHEREAS, for the past three years Ulysses Turner has served as chairman of the only school board in Hampton Roads that is appointed by the city council rather than elected by popular vote; and

WHEREAS, throughout his tenure on the school board, Ulysses Turner earned the respect of his fellow board members and Norfolk's teachers and administrators; and

WHEREAS, in the words of one of his colleagues, Ulysses Turner's tenure as chairman of the school board was marked with "fairness, compassion, and a genuine concern for the children, the parents, the teachers and the administrators of the entire school system"; and

WHEREAS, Ulysses Turner can reflect with pride on his decade of diligent and honorable service to the Norfolk School Board; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Ulysses Turner on the completion of his term as chairman of the Norfolk School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ulysses Turner as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his contributions to the public schools of Norfolk.
