1998 SESSION
WHEREAS, two years after beginning to run competitively, Rachelle Boone of Norfolk has established herself as a national-class high school sprinter; and
WHEREAS, in June 1997 Rachelle Boone finished eighth at the U.S. Junior National Championships; and
WHEREAS, running for the Atlantic Coast Track Club, Rachelle Boone garnered gold medals in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the 1997 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics by posting times that were both personal bests and club records; and
WHEREAS, Rachelle Boone helped pace the 4 x 100 relay team to a silver medal at the same event held in Charlotte, North Carolina, during August 1997; and
WHEREAS, Rachelle Boone's Junior National performance qualified her to compete against the country's top sprinters, helping her to realize that her ability equaled theirs; and
WHEREAS, buoyed by her 1997 successes, Rachelle Boone, a rising junior at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, has set a goal of making the U.S. Junior National team in 1998; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Rachelle Boone on her outstanding performance and extend best wishes and support in her quest for the Junior National team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rachelle Boone as an expression of the General Assembly's highest admiration for her accomplishments.
