HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 334
Commending Stenwood Elementary School.

WHEREAS, during 1998 Stenwood Elementary School, a Fairfax County school located in Vienna, will celebrate its 35th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, during its 35th anniversary year, Stenwood Elementary School was awarded the Area III Golden Eagle School Planning Award for sustained superior efforts to equalize educational opportunities; raise expectations and aspirations; increase achievement; and elevate respect for students of diverse racial, ethnic, status, and language backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, Stenwood Elementary School was awarded a 2,500 matching technology grant from the Fairfax County Public Schools Education Foundation to fund LEGO Dacta labs for students in Grades four, five and six; and

WHEREAS, Stenwood Elementary School earned the Jump Rope for Heart Rookie of the Year Award from the American Heart Association; and

WHEREAS, Stenwood Elementary School has implemented alternative scheduling to improve student achievement and the Fairfax County Public Schools' Model Technology Program at every grade level; and

WHEREAS, all students in every classroom at Stenwood Elementary School now have access to the Internet to enrich the school's instructional program; and

WHEREAS, celebrating 35 years of service to the community, Stenwood Elementary School continues to be an exceptionally creative, innovative, and caring center of learning for the youth of Fairfax County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Stenwood Elementary School on the occasion of its 35th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bonnie L. Miller, principal of Stenwood Elementary School, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on reaching this landmark anniversary in the school's history.
