WHEREAS, the planning and development of a transportation network on a Commonwealth-wide basis is the responsibility of the Virginia Department of Transportation, acting in conjunction with metropolitan planning organizations and various local governmental entities; and

WHEREAS, transportation directly affects the economy, quality of life, and air quality in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, transportation technology has become an integral part of transportation planning and funding on the federal level; and

WHEREAS, transportation technology can enhance and maximize existing infrastructures and can assist in the efficiency of new infrastructure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the transportation planning entities and agencies within the Commonwealth be requested to endeavor to use their best efforts to incorporate transportation technology in the transportation planning process; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That such entities and agencies be further requested to endeavor to use the newest and best assessment methods in planning for and using transportation technology; and, be it

RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit copies of this resolution to the Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner, the chief administrative officer of each planning district in the Commonwealth, and the chief administrative officer of each county, city, and town in the Commonwealth, in order that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
