RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Commission on the Future of Transportation in Virginia, created pursuant to House Joint Resolution No. 160 and Senate Joint Resolution No. 110 of 1996, be hereby continued. The membership of the Commission shall remain as originally constituted, with any vacancies being filled in the same manner as the original appointment, except that the membership of the Commission shall be expanded by one member so as to include both cochairmen of the House Committee on Transportation.

The Commission is encouraged to establish regional working groups to (i) address specific transportation funding issues for significant highways and public transportation projects, (ii) consider the appropriate role for state and local funding of these projects, and (iii) maximize the use of each transportation mode to produce an integrated regional transportation network. These working groups should include legislative members of the Commission who reside in the region, other state legislators from the region, elected officials of the region's localities, and members of the region's business community.

The direct costs of this study shall not exceed $26,000.
