Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-477.2 as follows:

§ 18.2-477.2. Punishment for certain offenses committed within a juvenile facility.

It shall be unlawful for any person to (i) make, procure, secrete or have in his possession a knife, instrument, tool or other thing not authorized by the director of the facility and which is capable of causing death or bodily injury or (ii) introduce into such facility or detention home or have in his possession firearms or ammunition for firearms. A violation of this section shall be punishable as a Class 6 felony.

2. That the provisions of this act may result in a net increase in periods of imprisonment in state correctional facilities. Pursuant to § 30-19.1:4, the estimated amount of the necessary appropriation is $0.
