GOVERNOR'S VETO

Pursuant to § 6 of Article V of the Constitution of Virginia, I am returning without my signature House Bill 953.

The House of Delegates rejected the reenactment clause amendment which I offered to House Bill 953. On the other hand, it agreed with the same amendment to Senate Bill 300, which was identical to House Bill 953.

The reenactment clause agreed to by the General Assembly to Senate Bill 300 will enable the General Assembly to determine the best method to resolve the inconsistency between that legislation and other existing provisions relating to suspension of operator's licenses for failure to pay finds and costs [see Va. Code § 46.2-383]. Senate Bill 300 having become law as Chapter 732 of the 1998 Acts of the General Assembly, I therefore veto House Bill 953.
