(HB230)GOVERNOR'S VETO
Pursuant to § 6 of Article V of the Constitution of Virginia, I am returning without my signature House Bill 230.
As Governor of Virginia, I support historic preservation. However, the resources of the Commonwealth are not endless. The Department of Historic Preservation works tirelessly to determine the most effective way to spend the Commonwealth's limited historic preservation dollars. This legislation proposes to add to the list of historic sites eligible for annual funding a site that is neither a Virginia Historic Landmark nor eligible to become one.
I cannot sign legislation that would expend on a non-historical site funds intended for historic preservation projects. I therefore veto House Bill 230.
