Introduced by: Warren E. Barry | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Powers and duties of health regulatory boards. Provides authority for all health regulatory boards to order summary suspension of licenses, certificates or registrations without a hearing if a practitioner's continued operation constitutes a substantial danger to the public health or safety. Proceedings for a hearing must be simultaneously instituted. Presently, seven of the 12 health regulatory boards have this statutory authority, i.e., the Boards of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, Pharmacy, Psychology, and Veterinary Medicine. The Boards of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Funeral Services, Nursing Home Administrators, Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy, and Social Work do not have this authority. This authority will enhance the boards' capability to protect the public health and safety.
