SUMMARY:
Virginia Retirement System; benefits for Commonwealth's Attorneys. Requires that Commonwealth's attorneys of political subdivisions participating in the Virginia Retirement System receive benefits equivalent to those of state police officers, excluding the benefits granted if an officer's disability occurs as the result of felonious misconduct. Currently, this provision is applicable only to sheriffs. Localities may opt out of the provisions of this bill by notifying the Board of Trustees of the VRS by July 1, 1997.
