SUMMARY:
Institute of Government. Codifies the Institute of Government at the University of Virginia and its 18-member advisory board, comprised of legislators, Cabinet officials, representatives of higher education, and local government officials. The advisory board was initially established pursuant to the 1994 Appropriation Act (Chapter 966 of the 1994 Acts of Assembly). The measure also provides a mechanism for staggered membership. The Institute is directed to develop a comprehensive training curriculum for local government officials and to make contracts for the delivery of this training through state and local agencies, institutions of higher education, professional organizations, and other entities, and to provide databases and information resources regarding local government to state and local officials.
