SB 1159 Protocol related to organ, tissue, and eye donations.
Introduced by: Jane H. Woods | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Licensure of hospitals; protocol related to organ, tissue, and eye donations. Requires hospitals, pursuant to regulations promulgated by the State Board of Health on or before January 1, 1998, to establish a protocol related to organ, tissue, and eye donations as a condition of their licensure. Specifically, a hospital would be required, upon a determination that a patient is suitable for an organ, tissue, or eye donation, to ensure that the family of such patient is approached by a "designated requestor" to request the family's consent for such donation. The bill adds definitions of "designated requestor" and "organ procurement organization."
