SB 1126 Health insurance; balance billing prohibited.
Introduced by: Jackson E. Reasor, Jr. (by request) | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Health insurance; balance billing prohibited. Prohibits balance billing by health care providers in conjunction with billing a patient otherwise covered by a health benefit plan. Balance billing occurs when a health benefit plan declines to pay all of a health care provider's charge or fee, and the health care provider seeks the balance directly from the covered individual. The bill exempts from its operation (i) the application of health benefit plans' required deductibles, coinsurance, dollar limits or cost sharing provisions and (ii) point-of-service provisions in any health benefit plan.
