Introduced by: Charles R. Hawkins | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Opening of the school year. Repeals the requirement that school boards set the calendar so that the first day students are required to attend falls after Labor Day each year. Under current law, this requirement may be waived by the Board of Education upon a showing of good cause. Pursuant to § 22.1-79, local school boards are empowered to determine the length of the school year "insofar as not inconsistent with state statutes and regulations of the Board of Education."
