SUMMARY:
A. L. Philpott Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Renames the A. L. Philpott Manufacturing Center, located at Patrick Henry Community College, the A. L. Philpott Manufacturing Extension Partnership. The Extension Partnership's governing board is increased from 17 to 23 members; six new citizen members are to be appointed in 1997. The board is empowered to apply for, accept and expend gifts; fix and collect fees for the sale of the Extension Partnership's products and services; make contracts with governmental and private entities that may provide assistance to the Extension Partnership's industrial clients; employ and compensate consultants, financial experts, and others; advise and assist economic development entities and others providing services for small to medium-sized manufacturers in Virginia; and develop programs for promoting economic development by improving industrial competitiveness.
Established in 1992, the A. L. Philpott Manufacturing Center was initially charged with various responsibilities for retraining displaced workers and developing manufacturing technologies in Southside Virginia.
