SUMMARY:
Fire suppression systems in hospitals. Authorizes the Commissioner of Health to extend the time for compliance with the requirement for sprinkler systems in hospitals if the hospital can demonstrate that construction is underway for a new facility to house the services currently located in the noncomplying facility and that such construction will be completed and the noncomplying facility relocated by December 31, 1998. All hospitals will be required to have sprinkler systems by January 1, 1998. Several years ago, one hospital had several deaths in a fire during the holidays.
