1997 SESSION
HB 2763 Conflicts of interest; school board employees.
Introduced by: Clarence E. Phillips | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Conflicts of interest; school board employees. Provides that the current nepotism provisions governing the employment of school personnel do not prohibit the promotion or transfer within a school division of those employees who are employed pursuant to a written contract or as a substitute teacher or teacher's aide prior to the taking of office by the relative or prior to the inception of the particular relationship; or who were employed at any time prior to June 10, 1994, and had been employed at any time as a teacher or other employee of any Virginia school board prior to the taking of office by the relative. A September 1996 Opinion of the Attorney General found that the exceptions only applied to the current employment of a Dickenson County man as a school principal; although he had been employed before his brother-in-law became a school board member, he could not subsequently be considered for the position of division superintendent in that school division.
