Introduced by: John Watkins | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Pagers on school property. Allows localities to adopt ordinances prohibiting possession of pagers or similar communications devices on the grounds of any school and repeals the general criminal statute. The bill retains the exceptions for teachers, and security and emergency personnel, but adds an exception for parents and guardians. It allows schools to promulgate rules prohibiting the use of pagers and establishing disciplinary procedures for pupils violating such ordinances. "Pager or similar communications device" means any device carried, worn, or transported by an individual to receive or communicate messages (Maryland). The bill also subjects confiscated pagers to forfeiture.
