SUMMARY:

Transient occupancy tax. Authorizes Augusta, Caroline, James City, Page, and Tazewell Counties, defined by population brackets, to levy a transient occupancy tax at a rate not to exceed five percent. Revenues generated from a rate exceeding two percent must be spent solely for tourism, marketing of tourism, or initiatives that, as determined in consultation with local tourism industry organizations, attract travelers to the locality. If there are no such tourism organizations, the governing body must hold a public hearing.
