HB 2459 Boating safety.

SUMMARY:
Boating safety. Requires operators of personal watercraft (jet skis) to successfully complete a boating safety course offered or authorized by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Anyone who operates a personal watercraft on or after January 1999 without having obtained the training will be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. The bill provides exemptions for nonresidents who have completed a boating safety course offered by another state, individuals operating a boat on waters located on private property, and individuals assisting in an emergency. The Department is authorized to charge a fee to defray the cost of providing the course.
