Introduced by: John S. Reid | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Pupil suspensions and expulsions. Adds to the authority of school boards to exclude from school attendance those pupils who have been suspended for more than 30 days and those private school pupils for whom admission has been withdrawn. The pupils can only be excluded for violations related to destruction of property, weapons, alcohol or drugs or for willful infliction of injury to another person. The school boards would be required to notify the students being excluded because of an expulsion or withdrawal of admission within 30 days of any hearing and, in the case of a student suspended for more than 30 days, the notice is required within 15 days of any hearing. Such pupils would be entitled to the notice and hearing procedures currently afforded to expelled students who have been excluded from attendance in another school division.
