SUMMARY:
Virginia Port Authority employees. Authorizes employees of the Virginia Port Authority to participate in the Virginia Retirement System or in an alternative retirement plan established by the Authority. Employees of the Virginia Port Authority are exempted from the Virginia Personnel Act. The Authority may employ financial and technical advisers and consultants and is authorized to procure and provide insurance and establish competitive procurement procedures. Current Authority employees who decline to accept, or are not offered, positions with the Authority's change in status shall be eligible for severance benefits conferred by the Workforce Transition Act. The Authority may elect to provide its own health insurance coverage for its employees or enter into agreements to provide coverage of its employees under the state employees' health insurance plan.
