SUMMARY:

Workers' compensation; failure to pay compensation when due. Modifies provisions in the Workers' Compensation Act concerning late-payment penalties. Current law adds a 20 percent penalty to compensation payments not made within two weeks of their due dates. This bill allows the suspension of the penalty provision when the Commonwealth of Virginia has issued a regular payroll check to an employee in lieu of compensation covering the period of disability. This legislation would become effective immediately upon enactment.
