SUMMARY:

Certification and recertification of emergency medical services personnel. Provides technical amendments to move the specific regulatory duties and responsibilities of the State Board of Health relative to the certification and recertification of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to the Code section pertaining to the certification and recertification of EMS personnel. This bill also clarifies that the operational medical director can make a determination as to whether the EMT must, for recertification, take the written test or continuing education and skills testing; that recertification for advanced life support providers is required every three years; that continuing education modules may be tested separately; and that, after January 1, 1998, a sequential option for the completion of the skills tests for recertification will be in place.
