SUMMARY:

Commitment of convicted persons to custody of Director. Changes the time period for when an inmate comes under the supervision of the Department of Corrections. Currently the operative time is six months; this bill changes the time period to one year or longer. Thus, any inmate convicted of a felony committed after January 1, 1995, and sentenced to one year or longer shall be placed within the custody of the Department of Corrections. Enhanced payments by DOC for these prisoners remaining in jail shall begin on the sixty-first day from the date the final sentencing order is mailed by certified letter or sent by electronic transmission.
