SUMMARY:
Elections; independent and primary candidate petition requirements. Reduces the number of required signatures for statewide office candidate petitions from one-half of one percent to one-tenth of one percent of the number of registered voters in the Commonwealth. The approximate number of signatures is reduced from 16,000 to 3,200. The bill reduces the number required for congressional district candidates in a like manner from approximately 1,500 to 300. The bill deletes requirements that the person circulating the petition must be a registered voter entitled to vote for the candidate and that the circulator's signature on each page of the petition must be notarized.
