SUMMARY:

Department of Health Professions; massage therapists. Expands the entities who may certify or approve education programs which must be completed by a person desiring to be certified by the Board of Nursing as a massage therapist. This bill allows the massage therapist to complete 500 hours of training from an education program certified or approved by the Board of Education, the State Council of Higher Education or an agency of another state which approves educational programs. The massage therapist may also pass the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork or an exam deemed acceptable to the Board of Nursing. Individuals who have practiced for ten years and completed 200 hours of training may also be licensed. The education program for this group of grandfathered individuals may be, but is not required to be, certified or approved by an official entity.
