SUMMARY:
Costs of primary elections. Requires the political parties to pay for the costs of primaries. Present law requires the counties and cities to pay for primary elections. The bill permits a county or city to pay any part of the costs of primary elections at the discretion of the governing body. The bill may be subject to challenge on constitutional grounds as placing an impermissible burden on associational rights of voters and political parties.
