SUMMARY:
Sales and use tax exemption; educational exemption. Grants a sales and use tax exemption from July 1, 1997, through June 30, 2001, for purchases by any nonprofit organization which combats illiteracy by (i) offering tutoring in adult basic education, family literacy, and English as a second language; (ii) offering tutoring to jail inmates; (iii) offering tutoring to school children in reading and math; and (iv) providing all materials free of charge to students. Literacy Volunteers of America would be among the beneficiaries of the exemption.
