HB 1766 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; designated an educational institution.

Introduced by: Eric I. Cantor | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Transfers existing statutes governing the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) from Title 9 to Title 23. The VMFA is one of five state agency museums under the aegis of the Secretary of Education. Amendments designate the Museum's exercise of power as an "essential governmental function" and deem it an educational institution for the purposes of receiving conveyances of real property or funds from local governing bodies, a privilege already granted to the Science Museum of Virginia.

The Museum's current designation as an institution of higher education for purposes of management of endowment funds ensures that the receipt of any endowment funds or unrestricted gifts will not reduce its state appropriation.
