SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 348
Requesting the Department of Corrections to use Virginia-produced coal, coalbed methane or natural gas or other Virginia-produced or Virginia-refined energy stocks for its raw energy source at all future correctional facilities.

WHEREAS, the Virginia economy is dependent upon the sale of coal, coalbed methane and natural gas extracted from mines and reservoirs located within the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, energy production, refining, transmission and distribution operations employ a significant number of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, the provisions of § 11-47 of the Code of Virginia state that in the case of a tie bid, a preference be given to those goods produced in Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Department of Corrections be requested to use Virginia-produced coal, coalbed methane or natural gas or other Virginia-produced or Virginia-refined energy stocks for its raw energy source at all future correctional facilities; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of the Department of Corrections.
