SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 348 Offered January 20, 1997 Requesting the Department of Corrections to use Virginia-produced coal, coalbed methane or natural gas or other Virginia-produced or Virginia-refined energy stocks for its raw energy source at all future correctional facilities. ---------- Patrons-- Wampler; Delegates: Abbitt and Cranwell ---------- Referred to the Committee on Rules ----------

WHEREAS, the Virginia economy is dependent upon the sale of coal, coalbed methane and natural gas extracted from mines and reservoirs located within the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, energy production, refining, transmission and distribution operations employ a significant number of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, the provisions of § 11-47 of the Code of Virginia state that in the case of a tie bid, a preference be given to those goods produced in Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Department of Corrections be requested to use Virginia coal, coalbed methane or natural gas or other Virginia-produced or Virginia-refined energy stocks for its raw energy source at all future correctional facilities; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate shall forward a copy of this resolution to the Director of the Department of Corrections.
