SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 342
On the death of Gregory P. Fleenor.

WHEREAS, Virginia State Police Trooper Gregory P. Fleenor was killed in the line of duty on December 12, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a native of Sullivan County, Tennessee, Gregory Fleenor was a graduate of Bristol, Tennessee, High School and the College of Technical Careers at Southern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Fleenor served for seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps, winning a Certificate of Recognition for physical fitness, an Honor Certificate for highest scholastic average in Air Traffic Controller School, and numerous good conduct and meritorious service awards; and

WHEREAS, appointed a trooper with the Virginia State Police in 1993, Gregory Fleenor graduated from the training academy in May, 1994 and was assigned to Charles City County; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Fleenor was promoted in November, 1994 and transferred to Henrico/Hanover in 1995, where he continued to serve with distinction; and

WHEREAS, a police officer of singular skill and accomplishment, Gregory Fleenor served and protected the citizens of the Commonwealth with dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely death of Trooper Gregory P. Fleenor; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gregory P. Fleenor as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his life of meritorious service to the Commonwealth and the nation.
