1997 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Stonewall Jackson High School golf team, from the Shenandoah County community of Mount Jackson, won the Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and
WHEREAS, in bringing the state title back to the Valley for the second time, the Stonewall Jackson golfers capped a brilliant season in which they finished with a record of 13-2; and
WHEREAS, on their way to the state title, the Stonewall Jackson golfers won the Shenandoah District championship and finished as runners-up in the Region B tournament; and
WHEREAS, led by individual state titlist Troy Copenhaver and John Weissenborn, who finished fifth in the individual competition, the Stonewall Jackson golf team was composed of Chris Carson, Ryan Locher, Matt Poland, Adam Seal, and Chris Wean; and
WHEREAS, the Stonewall Jackson golf team is coached by Brownie Ritenour, who graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, earned her college degree from Madison College, has taught in Shenandoah County for 25 years, and has coached the golf team at her alma mater for five years; and
WHEREAS, the 1996 state championship is a tribute to the talent and teamwork of the Stonewall Jackson golfers, the inspired coaching of Brownie Ritenour, and the support of the Mount Jackson community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Stonewall Jackson High School golf team on its superb 1996 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Brownie Ritenour in honor of the Stonewall Jackson High School state champions.
